Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has inaugurated two newly constructed township roads in Ado-Ekiti, using the occasion to challenge residents to actively protect and maintain public infrastructure for long-term use.
The governor, represented by his wife, Olayemi Oyebanji yesterday commissioned the Bovas-Spotless Road and the Palace-Okeage-Idolofin Road projects as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.
During the commissioning ceremony, Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the living standards of the populace by delivering vital infrastructure across the state.

However, he stressed that the long-term sustainability of these projects hinges on the collective responsibility of the citizens.
“Let me urge all road users and residents to maintain and work together to preserve this road; it is an investment in our collective future and we all have a role to play in maintaining it,” the governor stated.
He cautioned residents against actions that could damage the new roads, such as the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage and unauthorised excavation along the road shoulders.
Oyebanji highlighted the importance his government places on an excellent road network, noting that roads serve as “lifelines” that connect communities, facilitate trade, enhance security, and improve the overall quality of life.
He expects the commissioned roads to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and create new economic opportunities for local residents and businesses.
The governor assured the populace that his administration would continue to deliver the dividends of democracy and sought their cooperation, emphasising that the development of the state is a shared responsibility.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Sola Adebayo, described the project as a significant achievement in the government’s efforts to enhance the “livability, accessibility, and aesthetics” of the state capital, serving as a testament to Oyebanji’s commitment to infrastructural transformation.
Adebayo noted that the newly reconstructed and rehabilitated roads had been in a state of disrepair for many years.
He emphasised that the governor envisions a road network for the state capital that will facilitate smooth traffic flow, enhance accessibility, and improve the quality of life for its communities.
The commissioner also urged residents to desist from acts that would shorten the roads’ lifespan, such as dumping refuse or constructing illegal speed bumps.

They also used the opportunity to assure the governor of their massive support for his re-election bid.
