The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disclosed that the Federal Government, FG, has received applications for Nigerian citizenship from a total of 170 foreign nationals.

The Committee’s primary mandate is to meticulously review all applications for naturalization and registration before presenting recommendations for final approval to President Bola Tinubu.
The high-level body comprises senior officials from critical security and legal agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Tunji-Ojo emphasised the administration’s focus on maintaining stringent standards throughout the entire process, asserting that becoming a citizen of Nigeria—often referred to as the largest black nation on Earth—is a significant honor that must be awarded with extreme caution.
“Citizenship of the biggest black nation on earth is a valuable asset that requires careful consideration. We assure Nigerians that we will prioritize integrity and proven character above all else,” he stated.
He further stressed that the review process is a test of the Committee’s credibility, ensuring that the confidence placed in them by the Nigerian populace is upheld.
