Osun workers get reduced work days over rising transport fare

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved a new working schedule for different categories of civil servants, alongside a two-month extension for the distribution of palliatives to public servants.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Rasheed, explained that the adjustments were made in response to the rising cost of transportation.

According to the statement, the decision was outlined in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service, underscoring the governor’s commitment to the welfare of workers in light of the current economic challenges facing the country.

The new schedule sets working days for public servants on Grade Levels 01 to 10 at three days per week, while those on Grade Levels 12 to 17 are to report to work four days a week.

However, the directive does not apply to essential workers such as medical personnel, security officers, political officeholders, and accounting officers. These categories of workers are expected to maintain their regular work schedules unless further instructions are issued.

“It is also important to note that arrangements as to which days each public servant in the above categories will be at work shall be arranged by the Accounting Officers in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government.”

Moreover, the statement noted that the governor has approved the continued payment of the agreed palliatives to public servants in the state for the next two months, pending the implementation of the new minimum wage.

“All Accounting Officers of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of governments, including Local Governments, were further directed to comply.”
