Osun State Government has launched a new public internet service, “Imole Wi-Fi”, to provide free access to residents, students, and businesses across the state.
Oluomo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information & Enlightenment, in a statement on Monday, said the initiative is led by the state’s Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy Office.
The initiative is designed to enhance digital connectivity and foster economic and educational opportunities.

Governor Ademola Adeleke described the Imole Wi-Fi project as a “gateway to opportunity,” emphasising its role in breaking down barriers and promoting growth.
“With this public digital infrastructure, we are cutting barriers, connecting people, and driving growth across every sector of Osun’s economy,” the governor stated.
The initial rollout includes several key locations, such as the Osun State Library, Alphastart Hub, Osun Mall, and various educational institutions like Salvation Army Middle School and Osogbo Grammar School.
The service will also be available at sites operated by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy.
According to Azeez Badmus, the Special Adviser overseeing the project, this is the first phase of a broader plan to integrate digital services into daily life in the state.
He noted that future expansions will include more government services and specific tools tailored to different sectors, ensuring all residents can benefit from the state’s digital transformation.
The Imole Wi-Fi initiative is expected to benefit a wide range of residents.
Students will be able to access online classes and research materials, while job seekers and small business owners can apply for opportunities and conduct business online.
The service is also slated to assist the healthcare sector by enabling telemedicine and digital record-keeping, and farmers by providing access to weather forecasts and market information.
Additionally, the enhanced connectivity is expected to support community safety and emergency response systems.
