The Osun State Government has suspended all dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a deepening leadership feud and allegations of financial mismanagement.
In a statement on Sunday, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced that the suspension would remain in effect pending the outcome of a thorough investigation into the group’s activities.
Alimi said the decision follows reports of internal infighting and controversies regarding “allocated resources” within the youth body.

He said to address these issues, a three-man independent committee has been established to investigate the council’s leadership and its management of assets.
This move follows a recent public outcry where various youth organisations in the state accused the NYCN leadership of monopolising government packages and lacking transparency in their distribution.
The state government also noted that its action aligns with a directive from the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, issued in late 2025.
The federal government had previously withdrawn the registration certificate of the national NYCN after the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) found serial violations of governance standards.
By suspending the state chapter, Osun is implementing the federal stance against “factionalization and confrontations” within the youth sector.
Alimi dismissed attempts by the opposition to politicise the crisis, assuring the public that the government is focused on restoring “normalcy, transparency, and accountability.”
The state government immediately suspended all official engagements with the Osun chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
It also commenced a review of all past engagements and resources allocated to the body.

Additionally, the government began putting in place a new framework for youth engagement that complies with federal standards and prevents the dominance of any single group.
“The government wishes to assure the public that normalcy… will be restored to the sector through the machinery already set in motion,” the statement concluded.
