Former governorship aspirant Dr.. Akin Ogunbiyi has pledged full support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign ahead of the 2026 governorship election while signalling his intention to seek the party’s ticket for the Osun West Senatorial District seat.
Ogunbiyi made the declaration yesterday during a strategic meeting with leaders and members of his political organisation, drawn from all 30 local government areas of Osun State and the Modakeke Area Office, held in Osogbo.
The gathering provided an opportunity to review outcomes of the APC governorship primary conducted in December 2025 and to chart the path forward for intensified party mobilisation.
Addressing his supporters, Ogunbiyi directed campaign coordinators and members across federal constituencies and local government areas to fully integrate into the official campaign structure of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

He called on party faithful to accept the outcome of the primary process and channel their energies towards securing victory for the APC in the August 8, 2026 governorship poll.
“The emergence of Oyebamiji as the party’s flagbearer has addressed long-standing expectations within Osun West Senatorial District,” Ogunbiyi stated.
He noted that stakeholders from the zone had consistently pushed for a governorship candidate from Osun West, describing the development as a welcome step welcomed by party members across the district.
“The most important thing now is for Bola Oyebamiji to become the elected governor of Osun State. If that happens, by the grace of God, I, Akin Ogunbiyi, from Iwo Federal Constituency, with the support of our leaders, will emerge as the senatorial candidate of the West,” he declared.
Ogunbiyi explained that his earlier ambition to contest the governorship had been set aside following the conclusion of the party’s selection process.
“As for my personal vision to govern the state, that has become secondary now that the party has produced a candidate,” he said.
He disclosed that all aspirants who had sought the APC governorship ticket had united in their commitment to work together for the party’s success.
“Every one of us resolved that we will work within our various constituencies to ensure that Bola Oyebamiji emerges as governor,” Ogunbiyi added.
He stressed that priority would be given to the governorship election before turning attention to other political ambitions.
Ogunbiyi also highlighted ongoing mobilisation efforts in Iwo Federal Constituency, noting that the three local government areas in the constituency boast over 170,000 voters.
“Progressives can count on Iwo,” he affirmed confidently.
Earlier reports recalls that Ogunbiyi and six other aspirants were disqualified from the APC governorship primary held on December 13, 2025, due to alleged irregularities in their nomination processes.

A former flagbearer of the Accord Party in the 2022 governorship election, Ogunbiyi defected to the APC, describing the move as a strategic pathway to represent Osun West in the Senate.
He had campaigned on a platform of addressing the long-standing developmental neglect in Osun West, widely regarded as the state’s most underdeveloped senatorial district.
Bola Oyebamiji eventually emerged as the APC candidate through an affirmation process following the disqualification of other aspirants.
