The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, has vowed to address the growing insecurity in the state, particularly in its northern regions.
This commitment was revealed in a statement by Sam Ogunmusi, Director of New Media for the Ondo PDP Gubernatorial Campaign Council.
While speaking at a campaign rally in Okeagbe, covering Akoko North-West and Akoko North-East Local Government Areas, Agboola promised to put an end to the frequent killings and kidnappings that have plagued the area.
Agboola expressed concern over the dire security situation, which has forced many residents to abandon their farms, resulting in a decline in food production.
He emphasised that restoring security is critical to reviving agriculture and the local economy.
In addition to his security plans, Agboola outlined a broad agenda for Ondo State’s development. Key highlights include: free education from primary to secondary school, reducing university tuition fees, reforming the education sector, economic revitalization, healthcare reforms, agricultural transformation, infrastructure development; expanding employment opportunities for youth and graduates—women empowerment programmes for business development
Agboola reaffirmed his commitment to leading Ondo State to new heights of growth and progress, with a vision of creating lasting change across multiple sectors.
Leading the campaign for the November 16 election was Oyo State Governor and South West PDP leader, Seyi Makinde. He expressed confidence in Agboola’s ability to replicate the successes of other PDP governors in the region.
Makinde predicted a surprise victory over the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the people of Ondo to deliver a decisive blow with their votes.
“I am very sure that the National Chairman of APC, Alhaji Ganduje and Governor Aiyedatiwa who have been saying APC would retain Ondo State and capture more states in the South West would be shocked with the turnout of votes for the PDP in this coming election because with what I have been seeing since the campaign begins, it shows that the people of Ondo State are ready to chase APC away from Ondo State government house while PDP would have more states in the coming elections,” Makinde said.
At the cenotaph in Ikare, Governor Makinde addressed a massive crowd, urging them to safeguard their votes at all costs. He warned that the APC is prepared to engage in rigging and cause distractions during the upcoming election.
Makinde emphasised that it is clear the people of Ondo State have already rejected the APC and are simply waiting to express their stance through their votes on November 16.
“Come en mass on Nov 16, cast your vote, stay with your vote, let them count it in your presence and announce the result from your unit and follow it to the collation centre”, Oyo Governor admonished the people.
