To boost judicial infrastructure in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa today flagged off the construction of a new High Court Complex along Oba Osupa Road in Akure.
The state-of-the-art Judiciary Village, which will be named after the late former Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is expected to be completed within 48 weeks.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the project as a historic milestone, marking the first time since the state’s creation in 1976 that such a modern edifice is being constructed for judicial purposes.
“This is a milestone celebration as we flag off the construction of a New High Court Complex in our dear state. Today, we are not only making history but also fulfilling a long-standing dream of the judiciary,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He added that naming the complex after Akeredolu was a tribute to the late governor’s vision for improving judicial infrastructure in the state.
The 13-hectare complex, designed to meet global standards, will feature 14 courtrooms, a ceremonial court, a registry, a library, an exhibition hall, a utility building, and modern parking facilities.
The project has been awarded to Messrs Westfield Global Construction Company.
Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the state, but reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of judicial officers and expediting the delivery of justice.
“This development is not because the state is too buoyant financially, but because of our commitment to providing a conducive working environment that enhances the welfare of our judicial officers, workers, and people seeking justice,” he stated.
Furthermore, the state Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, described the project as a landmark achievement that would elevate the judiciary to global standards.
“This complex will elevate the judiciary with modern facilities capable of competing with any judicial system in the world. The governor’s commitment to this project demonstrates his dedication to peace, justice, and development in Ondo State,” Justice Odusola said.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Akinwumi Sowore provided a technical overview, highlighting the project’s features and the emphasis on efficiency in justice delivery.
More so, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, commended Aiyedatiwa for prioritising judicial infrastructure, calling the project a testament to the administration’s commitment to accessible justice.
