Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed confidence that Edo and Delta States will play leading roles in securing President Bola Tinubuโs re-election in 2027.
He gave the assurance on Saturday while welcoming a wave of high-profile defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.
Governor Okpebholo joined the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and other party leaders at a rally in Delta State to receive the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chiedu Ebie, and members of the Delta Unity Group into the ruling party.
According to the Governor, the South-South region is set to experience what he called โpractical governanceโ under the APC, just as witnessed in Edo State.
“It is our turn to shine in the South-South. It is now your turn in Delta. What happened in Edo is now happening here. President Bola Tinubu is doing well for the country, repairing the foundation for long-term prosperity.

โIn Edo, weโve already started. We believe 2027 is possible. It is also possible here in Delta,” Okpebholo said.
He praised Ebie, calling him an intelligent leader who understood when and how to make decisive political moves.
โIt is time for Delta to move, and that journey begins with the Ika people,โ he added.
In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, hailed the defection as a landmark development for the party in Delta State.
He described the Delta Unity Group as โgreat fighters of democracyโ and predicted that the APC would take control of the state in the next general election.
โWith three senators, members in the House of Representatives and the State Assembly, and over 60 percent of PDP followers now in APC, we are positioned to win Delta in 2027,” Ganduje stated.
He emphasised the need for unity among party members, saying, โWhat we need now is unity of purposeโunity to win elections and deliver quality governance to the people of Delta.โ
Mr Chiedu Ebie, who led the Delta Unity Group into the APC, explained that their decision was based on President Tinubuโs commitment to good governance and inclusivity.
โWe believe in the Presidentโs leadership and vision. That is why we are aligning with the APC at this time,โ he said.

Earlier, during a visit to the Palace of the Dein of Agbor, Dr Benjamin Ikenchukwu, Keagborekuzi I, the monarch urged President Tinubu to prioritise national peace and security to ensure sustainable development.
Also present at the rally were Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North); Teke Ibori-Swenu, Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC; former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege; and other prominent APC stakeholders.
