The Ogun State Government, through its Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, has suspended a teacher accused of inflicting corporal punishment on one Monday Arijo, a Senior Secondary School (SS2) student of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi, allegedly leading to the student’s death.
This was revealed in an official statement posted on the state’s X (formerly Twitter) page and obtained by The New Daily Prime.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Friday, led to the immediate arrest of the teacher.
Additionally, the school’s principal, Tamrat Onaolapo, was swiftly issued a query for permitting corporal punishment in direct violation of the state’s established rules and regulations.
The principal has been given 24 hours to provide a comprehensive explanation for her actions, and to justify why disciplinary measures should not be taken against her for disregarding the directives of the constituted authority.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Ministry issued a letter of condolence to the grieving family, offering heartfelt sympathies over the sudden loss of their beloved son and assuring them that justice would be served.
The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, praised the late student as an exceptional learner whose absence will be deeply felt by his peers, the school, and the state as a whole. It concluded by offering prayers for strength to the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of the departed soul.
