The Ogun State Government has applauded President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government (FG) for upgrading Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) to a federal institution.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade said the move is expected to strengthen its growth and sustainability.
Abiodun described the transition as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s first specialized university of education.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to advancing education and ensuring TASUED remains a centre of excellence in teacher training.
The New Daily Prime reported that President Tinubu approved the transition following an appeal from the Ogun State Government, recognising TASUED’s critical role in teacher education.

He also acknowledged the historical contributions of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Tai Solarin, as well as the intervention of the Awujale of Ijebuland, who played a pivotal role in preventing the university’s closure in 2012.
With this upgrade, TASUED joins Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and Adeyemi Federal University of Education as one of only three universities of education in Nigeria.
The move aligns with the Federal Government’s vision to strengthen teacher training and improve educational standards.
TASUED is now among seven newly designated Federal Universities of Education, alongside institutions in Kano, Zaria, Ondo, Owerri, Pankshin, and Kontagora.
The transition is expected to enhance funding, improve infrastructure, and elevate TASUED’s national recognition, further reinforcing Ogun State’s status as an academic hub.
