The former Governor of Oyo State and Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has returned to Ibadan, the state capital, as preparations intensify for his official ascension to the throne.
Ladoja, who was unanimously approved by the Olubadan-in-Council as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, is currently at his family house in Isale-Osi, located in Ibadan South East Local Government Area. He is expected to proceed shortly to his private residence on Ondo Street, in Bodija, within Ibadan North Local Government.
Speaking on Monday, the media aide to the Olubadan-designate, Mr Adeola Oloko, confirmed Ladoja’s arrival in the city.
“The 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Ladoja, is in town right now. He is at Isale-Osi. From here, we are moving to his house at Bodija,” Oloko stated.
The development comes after the Olubadan-in-Council met on Monday, 4th April 2025, and formally selected Oba Ladoja as the next Olubadan, following a traditional 21-day mourning period for the late 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Notably, Ladoja was not present at the April meeting, which was held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo.
The final step in the traditional succession now lies with the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who is expected to ratify the council’s decision and announce a date for the formal presentation of the staff of office.
Ladoja’s imminent coronation marks a historic return to the royal spotlight for the respected statesman, who previously served as Governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2007.
Further details on the coronation ceremony are expected to be announced in the coming days.
