The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn a corps member, Oyaje Daniel, from his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) at Judeen International School, Annex Section, Mando, Kaduna State, following a controversial online comment he made about teenage female students.
Daniel, who is serving in Igabi Local Government Area, was summoned by the NYSC State Disciplinary Committee after his comment went viral and sparked public outrage. He appeared before the committee alongside his Community Development Service (CDS) President as part of an urgent review of his conduct.
Sources said the NYSC leadership acted swiftly due to the sensitive nature of the comment, which many condemned as inappropriate and unbecoming of a corps member posted to work in a school environment. The agency viewed the matter as one capable of undermining public trust in schools that host corps members.
The Alumni President of Daniel’s college, Comrade Philip Ayuba Bobai, and activist John Adesogan accompanied him to the NYSC Headquarters for further engagement with senior officials. According to those present, Daniel appeared “sober and remorseful” and was visibly shaken by the widespread backlash to his online remark.
NYSC authorities have reportedly taken several disciplinary actions pending the conclusion of their investigation, though the specific measures were not disclosed. It is understood, however, that the most immediate action was his withdrawal from the school, following concerns from parents and staff about his continued presence.
The NYSC has emphasised in previous cases that corps members must uphold high ethical standards, both offline and online, particularly when placed in educational institutions where they interact with minors. Online misconduct, the agency has warned, can attract sanctions when it threatens the scheme’s reputation or endangers community members’ welfare.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and further action may be taken based on the disciplinary committee’s findings. Meanwhile, Daniel is expected to be reassigned to another posting once the NYSC completes its review and determines the appropriate next steps.
