The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday resumed payment of outstanding arrears to corps members, marking the first disbursement since 3 June following a two-month hiatus.
The payment covers the newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance, which was announced earlier this year as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to alleviating economic hardship among Nigerian youths.
The NYSC arrears, which span from July 2024 to March 2025, had generated widespread concern among current and recently discharged corps members due to the prolonged delay in implementation.
Confirming the resumption of payments, a former corps member who requested anonymity told New Daily Prime:
“After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment alert. But honestly, it’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts actually count.”

The development comes months after the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured corps members during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja that all eligible members—serving and recently discharged—would receive the arrears once funds were released.
“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” Nafiu stated at the time.
He added, “Nigerians should not fret about that because the government is both responsible and responsive to their needs.”
The resumption of payments has been welcomed by many as a sign of the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to youth welfare and accountability.
