The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has restated its firm stance against any act of intimidation, harassment or abuse directed at corps members across the country.
New Daily Prime earlier reported that, a group of vigilantes at Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State assaulted and stripped a female corps member of her clothing.
The scheme, in a statement issued on Tuesday, condemned the assault on a female corps member, Edema Jennifer with the state code: AN/24C/0626.
The management described the incident as “unacceptable,” stressing that the safety and welfare of corps members remain a top priority.
According to preliminary findings by the NYSC, operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group allegedly stormed a Corps Lodge in Oba, claiming the premises were being used for unlawful activities, an allegation the scheme said was unsubstantiated.

The operatives reportedly subjected the occupants to a search and physically assaulted Jennifer, who was only visiting the lodge.
The NYSC disclosed that the matter had been reported to the police, with investigations ongoing to ensure the culprits face justice.
Reiterating its unwavering commitment to safeguarding corps members, the management urged security agencies and host communities to collaborate with the scheme to guarantee a safe and conducive environment for national service.
“Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members nationwide and would not condone any individual or group undermining their safety for whatsoever reason,” NYSC noted.
It also appealed to the public to provide necessary protection for corps members both in their places of primary assignment and in their residences.
