The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Nafiu Oloyede, has called on 2025 Batch B Stream II corps members deployed to Osun State to take full advantage of skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes available during their service year.
Speaking during a visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede on Sunday, Oloyede emphasised that the training would empower corps members to become self-reliant after completing their one-year compulsory service.
“We cannot make startup capital available to all, but with financial literacy, you can build your own capital through your allowances,” the DG stated.
He urged the corps members not to depend on unguaranteed promises of employment from family members but to make productive use of the opportunity before them. He noted that the NYSC scheme has collaborated with NGOs, civil society organisations, and government MDAs to strengthen its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
“The reality is what you have now. Do not miss the skills on camp. Don’t leave with only one certificate. Take every opportunity to learn and equip yourself,” he added.

General Oloyede encouraged the corps members to develop a mindset geared towards innovation and entrepreneurship rather than relying solely on white-collar jobs.
“These are days of little beginnings. Don’t despise them. Use every opportunity to build yourself and make a meaning in life,” he advised.
Meanwhile, the federal government has introduced a new policy linking NYSC mobilisation to the submission of final year projects and theses to the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD). The directive, approved by President Bola Tinubu, was communicated via a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
The move aims to enhance academic accountability and preserve intellectual work produced by Nigerian graduates.
Also speaking at the event, NYSC Osun State Coordinator Mr Agbor Obim said the DG’s visit had significantly boosted the morale of the corps members. According to him, a total of 2,500 corps members were deployed from Lagos and Osun, with 1,637 posted to Osun and 863 to Lagos.
The 2025 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course began nationwide on Wednesday, 24 September, across all NYSC camps.
