NNPC Retail Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of NNPC, has educated over 1,000 auto mechanics through a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at fostering the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner, more affordable fuel alternative in Nigeria.
This sensitization effort, held during the National Artisans and Technicians Conference last week in Lagos, attracted a diverse audience of auto mechanics and technicians from across the nation. The initiative aligns with NNPC’s broader goal of accelerating the shift toward sustainable energy solutions.
The engagement focused on simplifying the process of converting gasoline-powered vehicles to CNG and encouraged greater adoption of eco-friendly fuel options.
Beyond promoting CNG conversion, NRL also highlighted its Oleum lubricant range, renowned for its superior performance in both gasoline and CNG-powered engines, further supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
This landmark initiative reaffirms NRL’s dedication to leading the country’s shift toward sustainable energy sources while equipping Nigerian artisans with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the evolving automotive landscape.
The conference featured hands-on demonstrations of vehicle conversions from gasoline to CNG, providing participants with practical insights into the technical aspects of the process.
Speaking at the event, Baba Shettima Kukawa, Executive Director of Retail Operations & Mobility at NRL, encouraged mechanics to acquire the skills needed for CNG conversion, stressing that it represents a key trend poised to shape the future of Nigeria’s automotive industry.
“We believe that sensitizing mechanics on the importance of CNG adoption is critical to achieving Nigeria’s long-term energy goals. While this engagement focused on raising awareness, we urge artisans to actively pursue the skills required to contribute to this transformative shift toward cleaner and more affordable fuel options. This initiative represents a crucial step in advancing the nation’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future,” Kukawa stated.
The Chairmen of the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) and the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) applauded NRL’s proactive approach, urging the expansion of the initiative to include more mechanics and technicians across the country.
Both associations emphasised the importance of sustained efforts in advancing Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy solutions.
As part of its support for the local automotive industry, NRL provided mechanics with essential items, including coveralls, toolboxes, and generators, to boost their business operations and promote sustainability.
NNPC Retail’s commitment to promoting compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel is in line with NNPC’s broader strategic vision to reduce the environmental impact of energy consumption in Nigeria while making fuel more affordable for consumers.
