A joint operation between Nigerian and Nigerien troops has repelled a major Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on Forward Operating Base Kangar in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.
In a post shared on Tuesday, the terrorists launched the assault around 4:30 a.m., using armed drones and mortar fire to target defensive positions.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), reinforced by Sector 3 units, fought back fiercely with air support from Nigerien fighter aircraft, forcing the attackers to retreat into the Tumbun waterways.

Six terrorists were confirmed neutralised, with several others killed in follow-up air strikes by the Nigerian and Nigerien Air Forces.
Recovered items include five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 258 rounds of ammunition, five RPG bombs, four armed drone bombs, five hand grenades, and other materials.
A few soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members sustained minor injuries and were evacuated by Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) platforms for treatment.
The MNJTF also provided intelligence and surveillance support during the operation.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, commended the troops’ gallantry and coordination, noting that exploitation operations were ongoing to track fleeing terrorists.
The Military High Command praised the forces’ courage and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the North East.
