President Bola Tinubu has approved the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to plan and coordinate a state funeral for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the committee is to be chaired by SGF George Akume.
It comprises key cabinet members and top security officials, tasked with delivering a dignified and befitting burial ceremony.
Members of the committee include the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning; Defence; Information and National Orientation; Works; Interior; Federal Capital Territory; Housing and Urban Development; Health and Social Welfare (State); and Culture and Creative Economy.

Also named are the National Security Adviser, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Chief of Defence Staff.
The statement further noted that Tinubu has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at the entrances of their offices, allowing members of the public to pay their last respects to the late statesman.
In addition, central condolence registers will be made available at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja to accommodate tributes from the diplomatic community and the general public.
Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements will be made in due course, the statement added.
