A Nigerian medical doctor based abroad, identified simply as Tony by a post on Facebook, has allegedly died after he took a drink allegedly laced with poison by one of his kinsmen.
The incident reportedly happened in his village, Nenu, in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State on Boxing Day.
One of the deceased’s friends, Prince Agbara, who said this in a Facebook post, said the alleged culprit fled the village with his family after the doctor died.
“This is disheartening. Somebody that was alive and healthy on the 25th, poisoned on the 26th through drink and he vomited and that was it, by his kinsman. On noticing that my friend had died he ran away with his family,” he wrote.

It is not yet clear whether the Abia State Police Command has stepped into the matter.
