The Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding following reports of an airstrike conducted as part of joint counterterrorism operations between the Federal Government (FG) and the United States.
In a statement issued on his X page on Friday, Tambuwal acknowledged the reports of the air operation and assured his constituents that he is in active communication with security authorities to obtain full details and clarify the circumstances surrounding the event.

Tambuwal emphasised that legitimate security operations are designed to eliminate criminal and terrorist elements, not to harm innocent citizens.
He stressed that the protection of civilian lives must remain the central focus of any military engagement.
“It is important to reassure the public that counterterrorism operations are targeted at criminal and terrorist elements who threaten our collective safety, and not at innocent civilians who are themselves victims of insecurity,” Tambuwal stated.
He commended the “courage and professionalism” of Nigerian military and security forces.
Tambuwal noted their collaboration with international partners to confront banditry and terrorism under difficult conditions, calling their sacrifices worthy of full public support.
To maintain peace in the region, Tambuwal emphasised the importance of credible information, urging residents to continue sharing intelligence with security agencies.
He also called on community and traditional leaders to resist the spread of misinformation that could incite fear.
Additionally, he assured the public that relevant authorities were working to ensure all security protocols were properly upheld.
Tambuwal expressed confidence that through unity and vigilance, the state would overcome the forces of terror.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that necessary safeguards are upheld for the people of Sokoto South while the authorities continue their efforts to restore stability.
