Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for attempting to smuggle cocaine into Nigeria.
The Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi on Sunday disclose that Ejiofor, who reportedly runs boutique outlets in Lagos and Onitsha, was intercepted on 8 October, upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941.
Acting on credible intelligence, it was noted that NDLEA officers subjected him to a body scan, which revealed that he had concealed illicit substances both internally and in his private part.

A search led to the recovery of 58 wraps of cocaine hidden in his underwear, while an additional 69 wraps were expelled during a monitored excretion process.
The document shared by Babafemi noted that a total of 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms were retrieved.
In a separate operation, NDLEA agents in Lagos uncovered three consignments of illegal drugs destined for the United Kingdom.
The seizures included 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine disguised within blocks of glass ceramics, as well as quantities of pentazocine and tramadol injections concealed in packages.
Another parcel contained tramadol capsules packed in a Vitamin C container. Similar attempts to ship narcotics to Turkey, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates were also foiled.
At the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), officers discovered 27,510 rohypnol tablets concealed in alcoholic drink sachets heading for South Africa.
Two suspects were initially arrested, and a follow-up operation led to the capture of the alleged ringleader, 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, also known as “Yellow,” at Oyingbo Market in Lagos.
Further raids across Edo, Osun, Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States yielded large quantities of cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, leading to several arrests.
In Edo State, 47 kilograms of cannabis were seized from a suspect’s residence, while over 600 kilograms of skunk were recovered from vehicles in Osun State.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended the officers for their professionalism and persistence.
He urged all commands nationwide to maintain their vigilance and dedication to the Agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
