The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Sunday Ibigide, 36, in Asaba, Delta State, three years after he was declared wanted for trafficking offences.
The agency in a post on Sunday, Ibigide was arrested on 10 August 2025, while attempting to transport 250 blocks of cannabis skunk weighing 138kg in a distribution bus. He had been on the run since 19 March 2022, when 24.1kg of cannabis and 10 grams of molly were linked to him. One of his aides, Clement Osuya, 27, was also arrested.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives destroyed 37,500kg of cannabis cultivated on 15 hectares of farmland in Enugu Ezike, Enugu State, between 14 and 15 August. Six suspects were arrested, and 74.5kg of the drug was recovered for prosecution.
Other seizures include 20,700 pills of tramadol and cocodamol from Emmanuel Ayogu, 53, along Nsukka Road, Enugu; 27.6kg of cannabis from two men at Enugu new market; and 149kg of Ghana Loud cannabis from Muyibat Mumuni, 52, and her son Faruk, 25, in Mushin, Lagos. Another suspect, Emmanuel Samuel, was caught in Lekki with 8.5kg of Canadian Loud.
In Gombe, 128,000 capsules of tramadol were recovered from Sani Mohammed, 32, while in Kogi, a commercial bus driver, Sulaiman Oyedokun, 47, was arrested with 337,800 capsules of tramadol along the Okene–Lokoja highway.
In Taraba, NDLEA destroyed 11,250kg of cannabis on 4.5 hectares in Sardauna LGA, and recovered 29,840 capsules of tramadol from Saleh Babangida, 20, in Wukari.

In Kaduna, two suspects were arrested with 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol, while another pair was caught with 111.1kg of cannabis on the Zaria–Kano road. In Edo, officers seized 432kg of cannabis along Warake–Auchi road and 130kg from a warehouse in Sobe. Two more suspects were arrested in Kano with 92kg of cannabis on the Zaria–Kano road.
At the Onne Port Complex in Rivers State, NDLEA uncovered 875,000 bottles of codeine syrup valued at over N6.1 billion and 3.5 million pills of benzhexol worth N1.7 billion during a joint inspection with Customs and other agencies on 13 and 14 August.
In Lagos, operatives intercepted 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection at Gbaji checkpoint, Badagry, arresting a suspect, Akeem Adegun.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, visiting traditional rulers and statesmen including General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), the Emir of Borgu, the Emir of Lafia, and the Shehu of Borno.
Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd), commended the officers for their efforts and urged them to sustain the momentum.
