My administration will continue to enhance welfare of workers – Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ongoing training and capacity building to ensure public servants deliver efficient and effective services.

As the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming November 16 election, he made this pledge during a special rally hosted by the Congress on Tuesday, where he received endorsement from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria, Ondo State Council.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the TUC’s endorsement, emphasising the union’s support for continuity in his administration beyond 2025.

He assured union members of his steadfast commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare and addressing their needs comprehensively.

The governor highlighted several achievements during his tenure, including the regular and timely payment of salaries, the disbursement of the 2024 leave bonus, and the ₦35,000 wage award, initiatives that position Ondo State among the leaders in the Southwest, alongside Lagos.

He also noted the near completion of recruitment for teachers in primary and secondary schools across the state’s 18 local government areas, the appointment of permanent secretaries and Tutors-General, and the hiring of approximately 1,000 health workers.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his appreciation to Congress for maintaining a collaborative relationship with his administration and praised the union for recognising the significant progress made since he took office, underscoring that these achievements stem from a dedicated commitment to the welfare of the state’s citizens.

Addressing the matter of salary payments, he reiterated that the regular and timely disbursement of wages is not a privilege but a fundamental right of workers.

Meanwhile, TUC Chairman Fatuase urged the governor to fully implement the housing scheme, providing affordable land allocations for civil servants, and to designate land for civil servants interested in agricultural pursuits.

He also commended the governor for approving a new minimum wage of ₦73,000 and sponsoring over 100 workers to the Southwest Labour Summit in Ibadan.

Furthermore, Fatuase emphasised the unanimous decision reached by both past and present leaders of the Congress’s 23 active affiliate unions.

He said: “In a meeting held on Thursday, 31st October 2024, the activities of the present administration were critically analysed. Mr Governor was rated excellent, compelling the Congress to reciprocate the gesture for his dedication to workers’ welfare.”
