The Muslim Congress (TMC) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of 16 northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State, expressing deep sorrow over the senseless act of violence. In a statement issued by its Amir, Alhaji AbdulWasi’I Taiwo Bangbala, the council called for restraint from affected communities, urging them to resist any urge for retaliation.
TMC emphasised that violence only perpetuates conflict and that trust must be placed in the legal system to deliver justice.
“Violence only deepens wounds and perpetuates cycles of conflict. Instead, we must place our trust in the legal system and allow due process to deliver accountability,” the statement read.
Describing the killings as “senseless” and driven by “baseless accusations and mob hysteria,” TMC warned that such incidents expose the fragile nature of peace and the urgent need for unity and justice within the country.

The council extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, calling the act a “horrific tragedy” that has robbed them of their loved ones.
TMC also pointed out that the Uromi killings are not just a local issue but a national crisis. The council highlighted the dangers of mob justice, ethnic profiling, and the unchecked rise of vigilante actions in the country.
“Every Nigerian citizen is entitled to the fundamental rights of safety, dignity, and fair treatment under the law,” the statement asserted.
Condemning extrajudicial killings as “an affront to justice,” TMC stressed that even in cases of suspicion, the lawful procedure is to surrender suspects to the authorities, not subject them to mob violence.
The council called for an “urgent, thorough, and impartial investigation” into the killings, demanding swift justice for the perpetrators and a commitment to ensuring such barbaric acts are never repeated.
