A pastor, Dio Idon, has been killed by a mob in southern Kaduna following accusations of witchcraft linked to the death of his brother, who suffered a prolonged illness.
The incident occurred on Sunday in Kasuwan Magani area of Kaduna State. Residents alleged that Idon was responsible for his brother’s death through witchcraft, an accusation that led to his lynching.
His remains were reportedly burned by the mob.

Idon was until his death the pastor of ECWA Ungwa Shaawa LC, Kasuwan Magani District Church Council (DCC).
Human rights organisation Amnesty International condemned the killing, describing it as an example of the growing trend of mob violence and “jungle justice” in Nigeria.
The organisation said such acts pose a serious threat to the right to life and reflect a failure by authorities to prevent violence and hold perpetrators accountable.
Amnesty International called on Nigerian authorities to investigate the incident and ensure that all those involved, directly or indirectly, are identified and prosecuted.
Cases of mob violence have been reported across Nigeria in recent years, often triggered by unverified allegations, with few resulting in arrests or convictions.
