JOS, PLATEAU STATE, The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, has reaffirmed his commitment to leadership rooted in compassion, fairness and integrity, emphasizing that Nigeria’s future depends on the development and empowerment of its young people.
He made these remarks on Sunday during the Praise Music Video Awards 2025 held in Jos. In his inspiring address, he highlighted the importance of youth development as a vital pillar for national growth and human dignity.
“Investing in youth affirms the worth and potential of every human being,” the minister said. “When societies nurture their young people, they uphold the principles of compassion, equality and shared responsibility, which are at the heart of humanity.”

The minister commended the organizers for creating a platform that discovers and nurtures young talent. He described the initiative as a “beacon of hope” that aligns perfectly with the core mandate of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to uplift vulnerable groups, promote human dignity and empower citizens through sustainable opportunities.
He added that humanitarian work is not limited to social welfare but extends to creating systems that enable individuals to thrive.
“True humanitarianism is about restoring dignity and opportunity,” he emphasized. “When young people are supported to turn their gifts into livelihoods, we reduce poverty, strengthen communities and inspire hope.”

Minister Doro shared his experience
Sharing his personal story, he reflected on his modest background and how perseverance shaped his path to leadership.
“Many people ask, ‘Who is Bernard Doro?’ I am not a career politician; I am a village boy who walked long distances to attend school,” he recounted. “I grew up in Hukke Village, in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. I attended local schools, walking nearly two hours each day to and from school. I studied pharmacy at the University of Jos before later moving to the United Kingdom.”
“My story is proof that, with determination and God’s grace, you can rise from humble beginnings to any position in life,” he said. “I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to have plenty. What matters is commitment, focus, and integrity.”

Commitment to Reviving Social Programmes
Minister Doro assured Nigerians that his ministry is determined to revitalise social investment and youth empowerment programmes to ensure that young people across the country benefit from government initiatives.
“Our priority is to reactivate social investment programmes that directly impact the lives of our youth,” he said. “Nigeria has a huge population of young people, and our policies must reflect their aspirations. Through these programmes, we aim to provide opportunities that enable them to build sustainable livelihoods.”
He encouraged the youth to continue learning, improving their skills and embracing personal growth.
“Improve yourself, study hard, expand your knowledge and be ready to learn,” he urged. “When you are diligent in your work, you will stand before kings and not before obscure men. Your gifts will open doors for you.”
