Vice President Kashim Shettima has described marital unions as fundamental pillars of Nigeria’s social strength and essential drivers of long-term national development.
Representing President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, he attended the solemnization of holy matrimony between Miss Deborah Ershima and Samuel Aondoakur, the son of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
In his keynote address, Shettima emphasized that marriage extends beyond a personal milestone, serving as a vital social institution that nurtures national cohesion, stability, and progress.

He noted that the integration of lives in marriage reflects the broader resilience and unity of the Nigerian people.
“A home is not built by vows alone. It is built by everyday choices—by the decision to return kindness for impatience and the courage to apologize even when you feel justified,” he stated.
He further observed that strong families contribute directly to the country’s capacity to overcome challenges, describing intentional value formation as the bedrock of successful homes.
Akume expressed profound gratitude to Tinubu and Shettima for honoring the invitation despite their demanding schedules.
He lauded Tinubu’s transformative leadership, noting that the administration is “doing very well” in repositioning the country.
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State also commended the president’s efforts and offered his congratulations to the couple.
He expressed hope that the union would add significant value to the growth and development of Benue State.
The high-profile event drew a significant gathering of top government officials and political leaders, including: Joseph Utsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Zephaniah Jisalo, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development, and Silas Agara, Director General of the National Directorate of Employment, Members of the National and Benue State Assemblies.

Shettima urged the society and relatives to support the newlywed couple with counsel and goodwill rather than undue pressure.
