The ex-attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of unlawfully invading properties linked to him.
Malami, who spoke through his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka alleged that EFCC operatives, accompanied by heavily armed security personnel, forcefully entered and took control of residences and business premises associated with the former minister without presenting a valid court order.

The statement which was released on Monday, claimed that two individuals were taken into custody during the operation.
According to the statement, the incident occurred shortly after a visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to Malami’s residence, raising concerns about the timing and possible political motivations behind the move.
Malami further maintained that the matter involving the EFCC remains pending before the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja Division, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
He also argued that no subsisting court order authorized the alleged invasion or marking of the properties.
The statement also noted that an interim forfeiture order previously obtained by the EFCC on January 6, 2026, had elapsed after its 14-day validity period, insisting that it could not justify the agency’s actions.
“The EFCC operatives were requested to produce a lawful court order authorising their actions but failed to do so,” the statement said, describing the development as a violation of due process.
He condemned what it termed a forceful takeover and marking of the properties, calling it a “flagrant disregard for the rule of law” and a “gross abuse of power.”
It further alleged that the operation was a calculated attempt to harass and intimidate the former minister due to his political affiliations.
While reaffirming Malami’s support for accountability and anti-corruption efforts, the statement stressed that such actions must be carried out within the bounds of the law.
The statement further added that Malami would continue to cooperate with lawful judicial processes and defend himself through legal means, while calling on Nigerians and the international community to take note of the development.
