A member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has raised concerns over what he described as discrepancies between the tax bills approved by the National Assembly and the version currently gazetted and in public circulation.
Dasuki brought the matter before lawmakers during Wednesday’s plenary under matters of privilege, claiming that certain provisions in the officially published tax laws do not align with the harmonised bills passed by both the Senate and the House.
“I’m here today because my privilege has been breached as a member of this all-important House,” he told his colleagues. “What was passed on this floor is not what is gazetted. I was here, I voted, my vote was counted, and I am now seeing something completely different.”

The lawmaker explained that he reviewed the gazetted copy of the tax laws alongside the votes and proceedings of both chambers and found inconsistencies. According to him, the documents approved by lawmakers differ from what is now being presented to Nigerians.
“What is before Nigerians, which is being sold to Nigerians at the Ministry of Information, is not what was passed,” Dasuki said, urging the House leadership to carefully compare the harmonised version with the gazetted text.
He called for the matter to be referred to the Committee of the Whole, requesting that all relevant documents be laid before lawmakers for proper scrutiny and correction where necessary. “I plead that all the documents should be brought before the Committee of the Whole so that we can make the relevant amendments,” he said.
Describing the situation as a serious constitutional issue, Dasuki warned that such discrepancies undermine the legislative process. “This is a breach of the Constitution and our laws, and this should not be taken lightly by this Honourable House,” he added.
Responding, Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, assured lawmakers that the allegations would be investigated and resolved in the national interest.
