Lakurawa attacks Kebbi, kills two policemen, rustles 200 cows

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorists group have killed two policemen and rustled over 200 cows during an attack on Natsini village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 11pm, when the terrorists, numbering over 50 and riding motorcycles, targeted a police checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road.

After overpowering the officers, they proceeded to rustle cows in the village.

A local resident, Abubakar Augie, said, “The Lakurawa were more than 50 on motorcycles; after overpowering the few policemen at the checkpoint, they went to where the cows were kept in a ranch and went away with them.”

The rustled cows reportedly belonged to a prominent civil servant, Lawali Black. Natsini village is about 5 kilometres from Argungu town.

Confirming the incident, Argungu Local Government Chairman, Aliyu Gulma, said a security meeting was underway and that security agents had been directed by the state government to recover the stolen cows.

Confirming the report tonewsmen, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the police command public relations officer, said, “It is true, two of our men died during an encounter with them.”

He noted, “Joint operations by the police and other security agencies have been intensified with a view to apprehending the bandits and recovering the rustled cows.

“The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello M Sani has already paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the scene as well as the Emir of Argungu,” Abubakar added.
