The Lagos State Government has confirmed a building collapse involving a bungalow classroom block at Odokekere High School, Ikorodu.
In a swift response to the incident, which occurred yesterday, officials reported that no casualties were recorded, and all students are safe and in “perfect condition.”
The Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), which manages infrastructure across the state’s six education districts, issued a statement expressing regret over the event but clarified that the collapsed structure was already on the government’s “danger list.”

According to classified documents from the SCRPS, the classroom block had been previously identified as structurally defective and was marked for demolition.
The committee explained that the collapse occurred just as plans were being finalized to replace the aging bungalow with a massive, multi-storey modern edifice.
The upcoming project is designed to address the school’s “huge student population,” providing state-of-the-art facilities that align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda for education.
Security teams have cordoned off the affected area to prevent unauthorized access.
Sanwo-Olu has ordered the immediate transfer of pupils to nearby schools to ensure that academic schedules remain uninterrupted.
A specialized team of engineers and architects from SCRPS is visiting the site today, January 16, 2026, for an on-the-spot evaluation.

Since its re-inauguration in 2019, SCRPS—currently led by Hakeem Smith—has been at the forefront of Lagos State’s “Infrastructure Revolution.”
The agency has already rehabilitated over 380 school buildings, constructed more than 1,200 new classroom blocks and introduced modular, technology-driven classrooms in areas like Agege and Ibeshe.
The management of SCRPS assured parents that the government is working out final modalities to begin the construction of the “ultra-modern” replacement block at Odokekere immediately.
