The Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) has reaffirmed its dedication to developing sustainable water transportation in Lagos as a key component of the state’s integrated, multimodal transport system.
This commitment was the central theme of the agency’s 2025 Strategic Retreat, held recently at the Festival Hotel in Amuwo-Odofin.
The retreat, themed “Advancing Water Transportation for a Sustainable Lagos,” gathered key officials to chart a course for the future of water transport in the bustling metropolis.

LAGFERRY’s Managing Director, Abdoulbaq Balogun, highlighted the significant progress made since 2020.
He noted that the agency’s fleet has expanded from a modest 4 boats to 22, and its network of terminals and jetties has grown from 7 to 17, now serving 25 routes.
This expansion has enabled the agency to ferry over 3 million passengers, providing a viable alternative to the city’s congested roads.
According to Balogun, a functional and sustainable transport network is the foundation of urban development, and LAGFERRY is fully committed to integrating water, rail, and road systems to provide efficient and accessible mobility for all Lagosians.
Also, Sunkanmi Oyegbola, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, praised LAGFERRY for its role in easing traffic congestion and saving valuable time for commuters.
She emphasised the critical need for inter-agency collaboration, particularly with the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure and the Ministry of Works, to ensure jetties and access roads are well-maintained.
Oyegbola also encouraged the management to embrace hard work, integrity, diligence, and empathy (H.I.D.E.) as guiding principles.
