The Lagos State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with Diageo Nigeria to train over 250 young people in hospitality, entrepreneurship, and retail, in a move aimed at enhancing youth empowerment and tackling unemployment.
This collaborative effort forms part of Diageo’s Learning for Life (L4L) initiative and highlights the state’s ongoing commitment to fostering a skilled workforce through impactful public-private partnerships.

The programme was launched during the week at an event held on the 11th floor of The Wings Tower, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the launch, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, praised Diageo Nigeria for introducing the initiative in Lagos.
He described Learning for Life as ‘a bold step towards sustainable youth development.’
He noted that it aligns with the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, particularly its focus on education, youth empowerment, and social inclusion.
“This partnership between Diageo Nigeria and the Lagos State Government stands as a model of effective public-private collaboration, with the potential to drive meaningful impact in reducing unemployment and advancing skills acquisition,” he stated.

The Learning for Life programme aims to equip participants with practical, industry-relevant skills in hospitality, bartending, retail, and entrepreneurship, sectors that continue to thrive amid Lagos’s dynamic cultural landscape and growing tourism industry.
Through this initiative, the state government seeks not only to create employment opportunities but also to foster long-term, sustainable livelihoods that support broader economic development.
