The company was prosecuted by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an amended one-count charge of stealing, contrary to Section 285(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 44, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
AAC Consulting Limited was initially arraigned on January 12, 2026, alongside its Managing Director, Anthony Adeoye, on a 50-count charge bordering on stealing and issuance of dud cheques. Both defendants pleaded not guilty, prompting the commencement of trial on June 5, 2023.
During the trial, the prosecution counsel, I.O. Daramola, called two witnesses and tendered several documents, which were admitted as exhibits by the court.
However, after the defendants repaid the full sum to the petitioner in December 2023, they changed their plea from not guilty to guilty. Following this development, the EFCC amended the charge, and the company pleaded guilty to a single count of stealing.
The amended charge stated that AAC Consulting Limited, “on or about April 27, 2013, at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, dishonestly converted to its own use the aggregate sum of ₦30,564,635.81, property of contract staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited.”
In his ruling on Friday, Justice Oshodi held that the prosecution had proven its case and consequently convicted the company.
The court ordered AAC Consulting Limited to pay a fine of ₦5 million within 14 days, warning that failure to comply would result in the company being wound up.
