Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared a three-day mourning period in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by Oluomo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
Lagbaja died on Tuesday night after a brief illness. He was 56.
Governor Adeleke also ordered that flags be flown at half-mast throughout the state during the mourning period.
Additionally, condolence registers have been opened at both the Government House and the Governor’s Office, allowing the people of Osun to share their messages of sympathy.
Describing the loss as devastating, Governor Adeleke expressed that the death of the late COAS is a colossal blow to both humanity and the nation, saying, “We cannot forget him.”
The governor conveyed deep sorrow over the untimely loss of ‘one of Osun State’s pride,’ offering his condolences to the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and all others affected.
The mourning period will commence on November 7 and conclude on November 9, with the condolence registers serving as a space for the public to record their tributes to the late COAS, who passed away at the age of 56.
“Once again, we pray God to repose the soul of late Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, and grant him Aljanna Firdaus Ameen.”
