In mourning of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed all officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police to wear black bands for the duration of the 7-day mourning period.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), shared this information in a statement on Thursday.
President Bola Tinubu announced the passing of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja in a statement on Wednesday. He passed away at the age of 56 after a brief illness.
The President also postponed the National Executive Meeting (NEC) scheduled for Tuesday and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff.
President Tinubu expressed that this directive is to pay tribute and honour the late General, recognising his gallantry, dedication, and commitment to combating violent crimes and insurgency in Nigeria.
He described Lagbaja as a remarkable leader deserving of every form of recognition.
“May the soul of the late COAS rest in peace.”
