Former presidential candidate and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced the defection of thousands of All Progressives Congress (APC) members into his party in Kano State.
Kwankwaso, who made the disclosure via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, described the event as a “momentous occasion,” praising the growing appeal of the NNPP’s leadership in the state.
“Yesterday was a momentous occasion, as I received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” he wrote.
The former governor of Kano State and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement hosted the defectors at his residence in Kano, where he assured them of fair treatment and full inclusion within the party.
“Speaking during the event at my residence in Kano, I welcomed the new members into our party and I promised them equitable treatment and cooperation,” he added.
Kwankwaso attributed the wave of defections to the NNPP’s strong political leadership and its growing influence in Kano.
“The distinguished leadership style in Kano and our political leadership keep attracting more people into our fold, and I encourage those considering joining to do so without any hesitation,” he said.
The mass defection marks a significant gain for the NNPP as it positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Kano remaining a key battleground in Nigeria’s political landscape.
