The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Kiru and Tsanyawa local government areas of the state.
The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) and other tactical units, following actionable intelligence, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa.

Kiyawa said that acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, a team of AKS operatives cordoned off Rahma Round in Kiru Local Government Area, where four suspects were arrested.
“One of the suspects, identified as Shafiu Ibrahim, 25, of Auchanawa village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reportedly confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang and admitted involvement in several cases of cattle rustling”.
“A TVS motorcycle was recovered from Ibrahim during the operation”, police said.
The spokesperson further added that the three other suspects arrested at the same location are currently under investigation for various other felonious offences.
In a related development, a combined team of operatives from the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested another suspect, Bishir Umar, 24, of Karaduwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Umar was apprehended at Mahuta village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the police, the suspect confessed that he and his accomplices entered Kano State on two motorcycles while armed with a rifle.
He was arrested while on surveillance, while his accomplices reportedly escaped with the motorcycles and the rifle.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover the weapons.
“All the suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation,” Kiyawa said.
The Command reiterated its commitment to tackling kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across the state, and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
