The Kano State Government has firmly dismissed widespread rumours suggesting an impending security crisis, assuring the public that the state remains safe, stable, and entirely under control. The clarification followed a State Security Council meeting on Sunday, attended by all senior security chiefs, during which Governor Abba Yusuf received detailed briefings on ongoing operations across the state.
In a statement released on Monday by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the government emphasised that no credible intelligence points to any imminent threat to public peace. He stated that the circulating claims were “false, sensational, and deliberately crafted to cause panic,” urging residents to disregard them.
The government raised concerns about what it described as a worrying rise in fabricated security alerts, warning that individuals responsible for spreading such misinformation will face legal consequences. According to the statement, the administration has intensified coordination with security intelligence units, law enforcement agencies, and community networks to ensure comprehensive surveillance and quick response capabilities across Kano.
Security formations, the government revealed, have been briefed and strategically deployed, working around the clock to prevent any potential disturbances.
“Every part of Kano is under active surveillance, supported by a robust security architecture,” Dawakin-Tofa reaffirmed.
Residents were encouraged to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear. The government also appealed for responsible use of social media, urging the public to verify information before sharing.
Governor Yusuf’s administration reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that it is already enhancing intelligence gathering, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and deploying advanced security mechanisms to maintain peace.
“Kano will not succumb to fear, misinformation, or attempts to destabilise its peace,” the statement concluded, assuring that the government remains vigilant and fully prepared to address any emerging security concerns.
