Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi of his appointment as Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, with immediate effect.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Sagagi has been directed to hand over the affairs of the ministry to the Director of Commerce pending further directives.
Governor Yusuf thanked the former commissioner for his service, noting that his contributions—particularly in politics, religion, and the development of small and medium enterprises—had a measurable impact on the state. He wished him well in his future endeavours.
The governor also reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to efficient service delivery and good governance, describing the move as part of an ongoing effort to realign government structures for sustainable growth and development in Kano State.

Kano 2027 elections: Appointees directed to resign
In a related development, Governor Yusuf has directed all political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments in line with the Electoral Act.
The directive was communicated in a separate statement by Dawakin Tofa and conveyed through an official circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.
“The directive emphasises strict compliance with laws governing the conduct of public officers,” the statement said.
The move is seen as part of efforts to ensure transparency and adherence to electoral guidelines ahead of the 2027 polls.
Why Yusuf defected to APC
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has explained that his decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress is aimed at repositioning Kano State for greater relevance in national politics.
Speaking at the party’s 2026 grand rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, the governor said Kano must not remain on the margins of national decision-making.
He described the move as a strategic step to strengthen ties with the Federal Government and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“It is about placing Kano in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its citizens,” Yusuf said.
“With the support of our great party and the cooperation of the Federal Government, Kano State is better positioned to move forward with confidence and stability.”
The governor had earlier exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party in January following internal disputes and leadership crises within the party.
Political heavyweights attend Kano APC rally
Yusuf also expressed appreciation to Vice-President Kashim Shettima for formally welcoming him into the APC.
The rally attracted several top political figures, including governors from Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, Borno, Yobe and Plateau states. Also in attendance were former Kano governor and ex-APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.
Party leaders described the large turnout as a strong signal of unity and growing support for the APC and its policy direction.
