In a landmark political shakeup, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State yesterday reshuffled the state’s executive council .
In the decision said to geared towards ‘effecting pragmatic political realignment of current administration, the office of the Chief of Staff was scrapped and consequentially, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi was dropped .
Also, the Secretary to the State Government,(SSG) Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi was not reappointed on health grounds.
In a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa ,he said that ,the first major rejig of the governor’s cabinet takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, Yusuf maintained the much awaited decision finally came to ensure optimal performance that will drive more dividends of democracy to the good people of Kano State.
According to Tofa, the governor removed some cabinet members and reassigned others to enhance administrative performance and political retool.
The other cabinet members dropped include: Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, Finance Ministry; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye, Information and Internal Affairs, Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Special Duties and Abbas Sani Abbas, Rural and Community Development.
However,those who retained their positions include Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar, Commissioner for Budget and Planning Hon Musa Suleiman Shannon and Commissioner for Works and Housing Engr. Marwan Ahmad.
Similarly,the Commissioners for Solid and Mineral Resources, Sefiyanu Hamza, Religious Affairs, Shiekh Ahmad Tijani Auwal, Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, Investment and Commerce, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya and that of Internal Security and Special Services, Major Gen.Mohammad Inuwa Idris Rtd, were equally retained
Others who were reassigned include: Hon. Amina Abdullahi from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Ministry for Women, Children and Disable, Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, from Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to Ministry of Special Duties.
Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Ibrahim Namadi was moved to Ministry of Transport, while Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa of Ministry of Education takes charge of the Ministry of Water Resources,among others
Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Chief of Staff and the dropped commissioners to report to his office for possible reassignment
