Kano gov Abba Yusuf resigns from NNPP amid internal crisis
The development was disclosed in a statement signed on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Matawalle previously served as Executive Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board and as Permanent Secretary, Establishment, before retiring from the Kano State Civil Service.
“Matawalle is a seasoned administrator who rose from the position of Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary and retired in 2014 after eight years in that role,” the statement said. “He distinguished himself in the management of Hajj operations over the years.”
On the appointment of Barrister Rahama Malam Alhaji, the Governor described her as a highly accomplished legal practitioner with over seven years’ experience in litigation, corporate law, electricity law, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
“She has delivered strategic legal solutions, managed complex contracts, and ensured regulatory compliance in both public and private institutions,” the statement noted.
It added that her professional career spans private legal practice, corporate leadership at the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and academic administration, where she served as Head of the School of Law at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
“She pioneered key initiatives, including the establishment of the Law Clinic and the Student Bar Association, and holds advanced legal qualifications, including a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law,” the statement further said.
The promotion of veteran Kannywood actress Aina’u Ade was attributed to what the government described as her “outstanding performance” in her former role as Special Assistant.
The Governor said the appointments were part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening critical sectors and improving the effectiveness of public institutions in the state.
Governor Yusuf urged the appointees to “justify the confidence reposed in them through hard work, transparency, and loyalty to the Kano First Agenda.”
All appointments and promotions, the statement added, take effect immediately.
