The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has strongly refuted claims that it suspended the profile of a candidate, Monsuru Aduragbemi, labelling the reports as deliberate misinformation by individuals it described as “conflict entrepreneurs.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the board dismissed allegations that it had violated a court order instructing all parties to maintain the status quo in a legal dispute involving Aduragbemi and two federal universities — Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
JAMB clarified that as of 25 September 2025, when the legal case was filed, and 30 September, when the court issued the order, the candidate had voluntarily dissociated herself from both institutions. It further explained that the supposed “suspension” notification was in fact a standard system-generated alert.
“The suspension message being mischievously misrepresented is a usual programmed default message that pops up on any profile on which any alteration by Board officials, institutions or the candidate had been restricted,” the statement read.

Dr Benjamin noted that this restriction was uniformly applied — meaning both OAU and UNILAG are currently unable to make any changes to their admission lists until the legal matter is resolved.
According to JAMB, the controversy was sparked when attempts were made to bypass the court order. When those efforts failed, the parties allegedly resorted to media attacks to manipulate public perception and pressure the board into breaching the court directive.
“It was when the fraudulent effort to tamper with the status quo became unsuccessful that those sponsoring her apparently became frustrated and resorted to media blackmail,” the board stated.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process, JAMB stressed that it would not be drawn into “media drama” and remains fully compliant with judicial directives.
“As a law-abiding government agency, JAMB remains fully committed to upholding the rule of law,” the statement concluded.
The board urged the public to disregard the misinformation and cautioned individuals and groups against exploiting candidates for personal agendas.
