In a strategic move to bolster internal security and enhance swift responses to violent crimes, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle to lead the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.
Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Friday, announced that as part of the IGP’s initiatives to improve security and combat crime along inland waterways, Chima Ogarashi has been appointed as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO).
Adejobi described Shogunle as a highly experienced officer with expertise in operations, public relations, and various other specialized fields.

According to him, Shogunle will spearhead the SIS in addressing critical security challenges while efficiently overseeing Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, as well as the Safe School Protection Squad.
Adejobi further stated that Ogarashi, in his new role as FMO, will leverage his extensive experience in maritime security and law enforcement to manage one of the police force’s critical divisions.

He noted that these appointments come at a crucial time, as the police prepare to deploy 25 newly acquired gunboats and advance efforts to procure additional maritime safety equipment aimed at enhancing security operations on the nation’s waterways.
Adejobi emphasized that this strategic asset acquisition is a proactive measure by the police to safeguard lives and property while boosting public confidence in maritime security.
He reaffirmed the IGP’s commitment to ensuring the police force remains responsive to security threats and dedicated to fostering a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.
