Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani, signed performance contracts with heads of various agencies within the Ministry on Tuesday.

The agreements include measurable timelines for delivery, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to improving services for Nigerians.

The signing took place during a retreat that commenced on Monday in Abuja, themed “United Front for a Secure Nation and Future.” The retreat underscored the Ministry’s core responsibilities of ensuring security, safety, and effective service delivery across the nation.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo noted that this initiative is not merely for show but is aimed at making a tangible impact on Nigeria’s security landscape.

“This initiative is about the effect on Nigerians and on Nigeria as a whole,” he stated.

He highlighted that the Ministry had previously signed a performance contract with President Tinubu and that it was now time to extend this level of accountability to individual agencies.

With the implementation of quarterly appraisals, each agency is expected to have clear, measurable deliverables.

“We want to be able to appraise ourselves. We want to set targets because we understand that this is not an era to give Nigerians excuses,” he added, referencing the Renewed Hope Agenda that the government is committed to realizing.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also noted that the performance contract aligns directly with President Tinubu’s mandate, emphasising that the effectiveness of ministers will play a crucial role in their continued relevance.

He reiterated that the objective is to ensure the Renewed Hope Agenda is effectively integrated within the Ministry, giving every agency head and staff member a clear mandate to fulfill.

“This is a performance-driven regime, moving beyond ‘business as usual’ toward an extraordinary commitment to ‘business unusual’,” he remarked.

In her remarks, Permanent Secretary Dr. Ajani highlighted the importance of defined roles for each agency and staff member.

“With today’s contract signing, every member of this Ministry has a defined role in delivering on our promises to the Nigerian people. The work has only just begun, and we are all committed to achieving measurable improvements across every sector we oversee,” she said.

The signing of these performance contracts signals a renewed commitment to accountability and efficiency within the Ministry of Interior, as it seeks to better serve the Nigerian populace.
