The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded nearly all results from the Anambra State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal.
As of 7:39 p.m. on Saturday, checks on the commission’s website indicated that results from 5,577 out of 5,718 polling units — representing about 97.5 percent — had been submitted.
Eighteen candidates participated in the election, including 16 men and two women, drawn from various political parties. Among the leading contenders were the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC); and George Nnadubem Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP). Others in the race included Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Paul Chukwuka Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Dayo Oketola, described the poll as one of the most transparent and well-organised elections in recent years.
“With reports of seamless operations, strong security coordination, and near-total PVC collection, both domestic and international observers have described the Anambra governorship election as a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a clear testament to the renewed confidence in INEC’s leadership and electoral integrity,” he said.
Despite widespread commendation, some candidates and political actors alleged that incidents of vote-buying took place in certain parts of the state as voters turned out to choose their next governor.
