The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued certificates of return to the newly elected Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, along with his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
The New Daily Prime reported that INEC declared Mr Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the just-concluded election in the state.
According to INEC, Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, while Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came in third.
Mr Okpebholo announced on his X page on Thursday that he received the certificates together with his deputy.
He wrote: “Today, alongside my Deputy Elect, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, we proudly received our Certificates of Return from INEC. This is not just a victory for us, but for every one of you who believed in the vision of a greater Edo.
“We were honoured to be accompanied by our National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and our esteemed party leaders. This journey would not have been possible without your unwavering support. Together, with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we will continue to strive towards a brighter future for Edo State. Thank you all!”
