The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the voter registration figures recently released for Osun State are implausible.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the electoral body maintained that there was “nothing extraordinary” about the data, which recorded 393,269 online pre-registrations in Osun alone within the first week of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The ADC had earlier criticised the figures, describing them as “statistically implausible” and inconsistent with historical voter registration trends and demographic data in the state.

However, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu responded by drawing parallels with similar patterns observed during the 2021 CVR exercise, when online pre-registration was first introduced.
“With regard to Osun State, the pattern is similar to what occurred in June 2021 when the commission launched the online pre-registration for the first time,” the statement read, insisting that the surge in numbers is neither suspicious nor unusual.
INEC had earlier announced that over 1.3 million Nigerians completed their online pre-registration within the first week of the ongoing exercise.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and credibility in the voter registration process as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
