Former President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday emphasised the strong bond between himself and his successor, Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued by his aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari joined Tinubu’s family and the nation in celebrating the President’s 73rd birthday.
He revealed that he spoke with the former Lagos State governor on Friday and prayed to God to grant him long life, good health, and a successful administration.
“When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation,” Muhammadu Buhari said.
Buhari stated that he and his family remain deeply indebted to President Tinubu and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their invaluable contributions to the party’s formation.

He acknowledged that the APC not only enabled him to serve two terms as President—after previous unsuccessful attempts—but also played a pivotal role in ensuring the emergence of another APC-led administration.
“No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without bringing into mention and without a recognition of the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organizer, party builder, a reliable ally and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with Asiwaju.
“When Nigerians handed the baton of leadership to the APC in 2015, it was a mandate to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria where the poor get opportunities for a better future and I am glad that the vision is not lost. It was a victory for all those who wished for the country’s good.”
He also took the opportunity to extend his best wishes to the President, his family, and the entire nation for a successful completion of the Ramadan fast and a joyous Eid celebration.
